Who we are
Maritime Events is a non-profit initiative run by a private team in Limassol, Cyprus. We organise the Cyprus Shipping Rally and the German Evening for the shipping community. We are not a registered company. The team is responsible for this website and for the personal data described below.

Your data
We only collect what we need to run the events and keep in touch with people who asked us to.
Newsletters
If you subscribe, we store your first and last name, your email address, your company if you give it, which newsletters you chose and when you agreed. The list is kept in Zoho Campaigns, in Zoho's EU data centre, which also sends the emails. You confirm your subscription through a link in our first email, and every email has an unsubscribe link. We never sell or share the list. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Tickets
When you buy a ticket we receive the name and email address of the buyer and the attendee details we need to run the event (for example team members for the rally). Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your full card details. Legal basis: providing the ticket you bought.
Your account
If you sign in, we store your email address, your first and last name, and — only if you give them — your company, mobile number and a profile photo. We also record when your account was created, when you last signed in, and for each signed-in device a session with its IP address and browser type, so you stay signed in and we can spot misuse. Your mobile number is only used to reach you about an event you are part of. Your profile photo is shown only to you and to the organisers; we shrink it and remove its embedded details (such as where it was taken) when you upload it.
There is no password: we email you a one-time link, sent through SMTP2Go. If you add a passkey, we store only its public key — your face, fingerprint or screen lock never leave your device. If you manage newsletters from your account, we keep a copy of which of our lists your address is on, so we can show it; the lists themselves stay in Zoho Campaigns. Everything lives in our own database on Google Cloud in Frankfurt. Legal basis: providing the account you asked for.
The organisers can see the accounts on the platform and your profile details, so they can run the events and help you. When an organiser changes an account — for example gives it organiser access or blocks it — we record who did it, when and from which IP address, so every change can be accounted for.
Sponsors
For each company that sponsors one of our events we keep its name, logos, website and social media links — these are shown on this site with its logo — and, for the organisers only, the name, email address and phone number of our contact there, plus the artwork files it sends us for print. We use the contact details only to arrange the sponsorship. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running the sponsorship the company agreed to. Ask us at any time to correct or remove them.
Emails and messages
If you email us — to sponsor, volunteer or ask a question — we keep that conversation for as long as we need it to answer you and organise the event. Our email is hosted by Zoho Mail in Zoho's EU data centre.
Photos at our events
We take photos at our events and publish some of them on this site and on our social media. If you are in a photo and would rather not be, email us and we will take it down.
This website
The site is hosted on Google Cloud in the Frankfurt region (Germany) and served through Cloudflare, which protects it and delivers it quickly. Both keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) for security and to keep the site running. Cloudflare also counts page views and loading speed with its Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not identify you. Links to our sponsors carry a tag showing that the visit came from maritime.cy, so they can see the traffic we send them; it contains nothing about you.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages people read, so we can improve the site — but only if you say yes in the cookie banner. Until you do, no analytics script is loaded and no cookies are set. We never use advertising or personalisation features, and we do not combine the data with anything else. Legal basis: your consent.
If you accept, Google Analytics sets two cookies:
_ga— tells visits apart; kept for up to 2 years._ga_KK36LR7RG4— keeps the state of your current visit; kept for up to 2 years.
Signing in sets one more cookie, better-auth.session_token, which keeps you signed in for up to 30 days or until you sign out. It is strictly necessary for the account to work, so it is not part of the cookie banner, and it is only set if you sign in.
Your choice itself is stored in your browser (local storage, not a cookie). You can change it at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page; saying no removes the analytics cookies.
Who processes data for us
We use a small number of service providers, who handle data only on our behalf and under their own data protection terms:
- Google Cloud — hosts this website; servers in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Cloudflare — delivers and protects the website, and measures page views and speed without cookies. Cloudflare may process some data outside the EU, under the safeguards set out in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Zoho — newsletters (Zoho Campaigns) and our email (Zoho Mail); EU data centre.
- SMTP2Go — sends the sign-in links for accounts. SMTP2Go may process your email address outside the EU, under the safeguards set out in SMTP2Go's privacy policy.
- Google Analytics — website statistics, only if you accept cookies. Google may process some of this data outside the EU, under the safeguards set out in Google's privacy terms.
- Stripe — takes our payments, such as tickets. Stripe may process some payment data outside the EU, under the safeguards set out in Stripe's privacy policy.
Apart from these, we do not share your data with anyone, and we never sell it.
How long we keep it
Newsletter data until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Your account and profile until you ask us to delete it (email [email protected]); sessions end after 30 days or when you sign out. Analytics data for at most 14 months. Ticket and event records for as long as needed for the event and for any legal obligations. Emails for as long as the conversation is useful.
Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation you can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent. Email [email protected] and we will reply within a month. You can also complain to the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection in Cyprus (dataprotection.gov.cy).
Terms of use
Information on this site
We publish event information in good faith, but dates, venues and programmes can change. When they do, what we announce by email and on this site is what counts.
Tickets
Tickets are sold on the terms shown when you buy them, and paid through Stripe. German Evening sales are final — no refunds, exchanges or cancellations. Rally tickets are not refundable but can be transferred to another team; tell us the new details before the event. If we have to postpone or cancel, ticket holders are contacted directly.
Taking part
You take part in our events at your own risk and are responsible for your own behaviour and belongings. Rally teams drive their own vehicles, which must be fully insured, and must follow the traffic laws and the organisers' instructions throughout.
Content and links
Text and photos on this site belong to Maritime Events or the people who took them — ask before reusing them. Sponsor names and logos are the trademarks of their owners. We are not responsible for the content of websites we link to.
The legal bit
This site is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from its use. These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Cyprus. We may update this page; the date at the top shows the latest version.
